Icon’s trendsetting music agenda and ambitious bookings policy have established the Berlin club’s reputation well beyond the borders of the German capital. It all began in 1996 as a series of parties in an old disused brewery. Ten years and a lot of rebuilding work later, Icon is a mainstay of the city’s underground music scene with a mix of regular club nights, one-off events, and concerts. As well as residencies by a stable of local “spinmeisters,” Icon regularly hosts top international DJs like Grooverider or Nightmares on Wax. After two years of exile parties in several Berlin nightclub locations, a new home was found in May 2007 for Tresor Club. The new club is located in a former power plant in the middle of the city. The entire space is enormous and only a fraction of it is being used for the three floors that comprise Tresor Club: the Tresor Floor in the basement; the Batterieraum on the first floor and the +4 Bar on the second floor. From the +4 Bar there is a balcony from which one can peer into the mammoth interior of the discontinued power station. A window view is also afforded from the Batterieraum. The club opened in May 2007 and celebrated its new home with four nights of parties featuring top international DJ’s and live acts. The new Tresor Club is large enough to accommodate many hundreds of clubbers and fans of techno music, and remains a strong platform for the preservation and development of the Tresor Records sound and artists, and electronic dance music in general.
