Die 31. Lange Nacht der Museen am 25. August 2012 eröffnet die Feierlichkeiten zum Stadtjubiläum „775 Jahre Berlin“, die am 28. Oktober 2012 mit einem großen Fest in der historischen Mitte ihren Höhepunkt erreichen werden. Zwei Monate lang werden rund um die Mühlendammbrücke die Spuren der mittelalterlichen Stadtgründung sichtbar gemacht, wird auf dem Schlossplatz die faszinierende Zuwanderungsgeschichte Berlins lebendig, erinnert in der Nähe der Marienkirche eine open-air-Ausstellung an die Jubiläumsfeiern in den Jahren 1937 und 1987.
Die Museen werden sich in dieser Langen Nacht auf ihre ganz besondere Weise auf die wechselvolle Geschichte Berlins einlassen. Führungen, literarisch-musikalische Programme und kleine Sonderausstellungen geleiten die Gäste ins oft gar nicht so finstere Mittelalter der Gründungszeit, zeigen den überwältigenden Einfluss der Zuwanderer in sämtlichen Bereichen des alltäglichen Lebens und gehen – bescheiden wie die Berliner nun einmal sind – der Frage nach, was diese Stadt seit acht Jahrhunderten so attraktiv macht.
